Everything Changes
Take ThatWhy it matters
This is where a boy band earned its arena stripes, converting Robbie Williams's cocky lead vocal on the title track and a Lulu duet on "Relight My Fire" into proof they could actually sing over the machine.
"Pray" is the giveaway: five-part harmony, gospel lift, and Gary Barlow's melody built to fill a stadium rather than a bedroom poster. Barlow's writing hand shows up hardest on "Babe" and "Why Can't I Wake Up With You?", where the ballads slow down enough to expose whether the voices hold — they do. The disco reach of "Relight My Fire" borrows Lulu's belt to sell a nightclub the band hadn't yet grown into, and it works because they treat her as an equal, not a guest. What sticks is the ambition: teen idols insisting they were a pop group with a songbook, and here starting to be right.
