Sweet Trip
Sweet Trip spliced airy dream-pop harmonies into a machine that keeps threatening to break down, proving glitch and sweetness could share one body without either backing off.
"Dsco" is the cleanest test case: a four-on-the-floor pulse gets shredded by stuttering digital errors, and Valerie Cooper's voice floats over the wreckage as if the crashes were part of the choreography all along. That refusal to smooth the seams is the record's spine, and "Chocolate Matter" pushes it further, letting distortion swallow a melody whole before it surfaces again clean. Two decades on, a wave of bedroom producers rediscovered this album as permission to let their prettiest ideas get chewed up by the software. Few records make damage sound this tender.
