This Land
Gary Clark Jr.
Gary Clark Jr. drags his most confrontational song onto late-night TV and hands Black Thought the second verse, turning a solo blues-rock statement into a two-man indictment.
Clark's original "This Land" already carried the sting of being told he doesn't belong on his own Texas property; the remix lets that anger travel to a different vernacular. When Black Thought steps in, the Roots' MC doesn't smooth the edges — he sharpens the argument with the compressed fury he built over decades in Philadelphia. The Fallon setting makes the choice louder, not tamer: a network stage becomes the place to say the ugly thing plainly. What lingers is the sound of two Black musicians refusing to soften a grievance for the cameras pointed at them.
