Milton Nascimento treats the human voice here as one more instrument to bend and float, singing in Portuguese, Spanish, and English across a record that refuses to sit inside any single country's borders.

"Ol' Man River" is the clearest test of this: an American standard about the Mississippi, sung by a man from Minas Gerais, and it comes out sounding less like a cover than like a river he grew up beside. That willingness to claim other tongues turns "Cuerpo y Alma" and the drum-driven "Os Tambores de Minas" into parts of the same conversation rather than novelties stapled on for range. His falsetto stays the constant, hovering above the arrangements instead of muscling through them. The result is an album that maps a personal geography, where a Brazilian mountain state and a foreign riverbank turn out to share the same air.
